About the event

This course examines the decision-making process Christian individuals engage in when choosing between seeking support from a pastor or a mental health professional for relationship concerns. Drawing from research findings, we will explore how the severity of relationship issues influences these help-seeking decisions, with particular attention to the types of problems that most often prompt individuals to pursue professional counseling. The course will also delve into the ways religious devotion and relationship commitment intersect with problem severity to shape these choices. Finally, we will discuss practical implications for strengthening collaboration between pastors and mental health professionals to better support Christian individuals facing relationship challenges. This course is designed for licensed counselors seeking to deepen their understanding of the distinctive help-seeking patterns within Christian communities and enhance their ability to work effectively alongside faith leaders.
